Production Technical Apprentice (Mechanical)

Cullum are looking to recruit a Production Technical Apprentice to work within the Production Department of Cullum. If you are in your final year of GCSE’s or A Level’s and you have a keen interest in an Engineering career then please apply for this role. You will need to have, or expect to achieve, grade 6 or above in GCSE Maths, English and a Science subject. You will also need to have a desire to work in an engineering manufacturing environment and have the motivation and enthusiasm to complete the apprenticeship programme.

You will spend one day per work at college during the college year. The rest of your working week in the first year will be spent on the shop floor and other Production Engineering areas learning and developing your engineering knowledge and skills. Years two and three will be spent in the Engineering Department developing your skills and working towards a career in Mechanical Design Engineering.

  • Work towards qualifications in Manufacturing engineering.
  • To acquire a diverse range of skills, knowledge and experience through formal instruction and “on the job” training in order to support the delivery of Cullum products and services and to become a highly skilled manufacturing engineer for our future business.


  • Acquire the knowledge, skills and experience to achieve the required standards in manufacturing or in order to successfully complete the appropriate technical apprenticeship. This will include but is not limited to:-

Year one

  • Under instruction and within training guidelines, operate/train in the use of Cullum manufacturing processes in order to gain a good knowledge of machine capacities and metal working techniques.
  • Learn and develop planning skills and increase knowledge and understanding of fabrication processes.
  • To carry out instructions from the Technical Services Manager and Team Leaders in all aspects of the role and produce a consistently high standard of work, meeting the targets and deadlines set by manager and relevant training facilitators.

      Years two and three

  • Further develop skills & experience around Cullum manufacturing processes in order to actively support the Technical Services Team.
  • To provide support in the production of DXF files and nests & job paperwork.
  • Develop skills to ensure ‘Production Planning’ activities are managed in a manner that provides budgetary control of Production resources in order to increase the department’s performance in line with company objectives.
  • Continual expediting of materials, services and tooling required for the smooth running of jobs through the department.
  • Advise and liaise with other departments as required at concept, design and manufacturing stages to ensure optimum safety and least cost for prospective and planned work whilst working within current regulations, legislations, customer and Cullum specifications.





  • Lead by example on matters of HS&E, welfare and codes of conduct.
  • Identify and suggest areas of improvement within the apprentice training programme
  • Work under own initiative.
  • Ensure that Trainers are informed of major developments and/or problems relating to training and development.





  • Promote and represent Cullum when required, setting a good personal example at all times.
  • Take all possible and reasonable steps to create a harmonious working environment using effective communication and team working techniques.
  • Be aware of, and adhere to Cullum policies and procedures, including but not limited to ISO9001, ISO14001, BS OHSAS 18001, the Health, Safety, Welfare, Environmental & Quality policies and procedures and Employee Handbook.
  • Undertake duties as may be required within capabilities consistent with the Terms and Conditions of employment and responsibilities in accordance with UK and EC Laws.
  • Undertake tasks and responsibilities assigned by line manager.
