Sponsored walk for Ben’s Den
Sponsored Walk for Ben’s Den
As part of our 60thanniversary celebrations on 2nd May, the employees of Cullum took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Ben’s Den.
Ben’s Den is a local charity that helps the families of children suffering from Leukaemia or cancer to go on holiday. Set up in 2004, Ben’s Den has raised money to buy and maintain caravans in the Mablethorpe Haven holiday park. So far Ben’s Den has 5 caravans, one with full wheelchair accessibility helping lots of families enjoy some time away.
The charity was set up in honour of Ben Parker who sadly passed in 2003 after a long battle with leukaemia. Ben was diagnosed in 2000 at only 10 years old, with the support of his family he remained strong minded and positive throughout all his treatments. During treatment, the Parker family realised the importance of having family time during difficult times which lead to the start of Ben’s Den.
With treatment often meaning families struggle to book in advance and expensive costs leaving little money for holidays, it becomes difficult for families to get away from hospital life and have some much-needed family time. Ben’s Den allows these families to have a free holiday with no cancellation fees while not being too far from home in case of emergencies.
The team at Cullum were inspired by Ben’s story to raise money for other children and their families. We have successfully raised £500 for Ben’s Den, with every penny making a huge difference to these children and their families.
Mark Jansen, Cullum’s Managing Director, said:
‘The families helped by Ben’s Den are going through something that would be unimaginable to most of us, and we’re really proud to do out bit to help a small local charity. Every organisation like this is worthy of support, but we know what a big difference it makes to smaller charities like this, and we hope it enables Ben’s Den to help lots more families in the future.’
If you didn’t get a chance to sponsor our walk, it’s not too late! You can make a donation to Ben’s Den here.
