Job Description
Is a list of the general tasks or functions and responsibilities of a position: Job descriptions look at a set of responsibilities and/or expected results associated with a job: Job descriptions can broaden to form a person specification.
Elements of a job description include:
This is an overview of a role. It should communicate the overall objectives and explain how it underpins the strategic and/or operational goals of the Company.
This section lists the individual activities which make up the role.
The supervision and responsibilities section will communicate the level of responsibility the job holder has for others under their control and to those who they report to.
The generic conditions section is already filled out. Conditions will apply to all job roles irrespective of seniority or responsibility.
Person Specification
The job specification is an extension of the job description. It is a profile of the type of person needed to do a job and is produced alongside the job description.
Elements of a person specification include:
Is a list of educational learning which is supported by certification or accreditation with a professional institution.
Comprises of an understanding of theoretical knowledge, methods of application and organisational techniques combined with direct participation or observation.
Defined as a theoretical understanding of a concept and the ability to apply theoretical concepts in the right way.
The attitude section is already filled out. The pre-input conditions will apply to all job roles irrespective of seniority and responsibility. Managers and employees may add to this section although additional items have probably already been stipulated within the section that deals with behavioral Competency.
